A-Z of Annier

Budding creator, Annie Turner, proves her knack for all things business and fashion in her line of unique bags.

Incredibly humble and surprisingly laid back, Turner proves age and experience isn't everything as a young millennial starting her own brand and developing her designs. Injecting vitality into an industry widely dominated by tradition, Turner seeks to break this mould by creating fun and simple pieces.

Her passion for creativity and function is made obvious by her brand, ‘Annier’, and the products she has crafted and retails. According to her website, Turner is driven by a mad ambition for success and a huge appetite for all things extraordinary as she strives to create and provide people will bags to fill their bits and pieces, and last them a lifetime. What more could you ask for of a staple bag?

I sat down to interview this bright fashion student to find out a bit more about ‘Annier’ and the creator herself.

Ruby: WHERE DID THE IDEA FOR THE BRAND COME FROM?
Annie: I have always wanted to create a brand. This year I really needed a bag for uni and couldn’t find one I liked or that would be practical enough, so I made one myself and then realised that I could sell them. From there I really wanted to create a minimalist tone and relaxed vibe for the brand and the products which I have tried to communicate by sharing photos on the brand's Instagram.

R: ALTHOUGH IT APPEARS EXTREMELY SIMILAR TO YOUR NAME, HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE NAME FOR THE BRAND?
A: Haha so, I just wanted it to be 'Annie' (my name) but Instagram wouldn’t allow it, so I added the R on the end which works well as my middle name is Rose so it incorporates both. I also wanted it to be unique and catchy so people could recognise it easily.

R: WHERE DO YOU WISH TO TAKE THE BRAND IN THE FUTURE? CAN WE EXPECT ANY PRODUCT VARIATIONS OR BRANCHING OUT INTO FURTHER AREAS OF DESIGN?
A: I have big plans for ‘Annier’ and I’m currently just really working on brand development and making it known. I would love for it to not just be a brand but also have a bit of meaning and give other people inspiration - something for people to get excited about, like I do now with my favourite brands. I would also love to add some more products into the mix, like clothing, but I guess we’ll see what happens.

R: CREATING AND ESTABLISHING A BUSINESS IN A SOCIAL MEIA DRIVEN AGE, HOW HAVE THE LIKES OF INSTAGRAM AND FACEBOOK HELPED TO KICKSTART THE BRAND?
A: Social media has been my main source of marketing for the brand. I used Facebook a little but primarily Instagram is where I post photos and info about ‘Annier’. It’s also so easy these days to drive traffic from Instagram and Facebook to the online store. Thats why I used these platforms so much!

R: WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR INSPIRATIONS FOR THE BRAND?
A: Girl boss and Acne Studios were some of my biggest inspirations for the brand. Girl Boss because of the values and encouragement to own my future I, and many other women as well I'm sure, feel from learning about Sophia Amoruso's story. Acne is also influential as a brand because of the minimalist designs they use and styles of their products without lacking class. I tried to use both of these sources of inspiration, and more, to create both my brand and products.

R: CAN YOU DESCRIBE 'ANNIER' IN THREE WORDS?
A: Unique but minimalist.
