I Can’t Stop Thinking About Jeff Goldblum’s Style

As much as I don’t want to admit it, I have seen virtually none of the movies that Jeff Goldblum stars in - with the only exception being Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel.
However, I have watched an excessively large amount of his interviews online, and have made the executive decision to name him one of my style icons.
By far, one of my favourite interviews that I rewatch every so often is his appearance on Complex’s Sneaker Shopping series. Sandwiched between funky musical breaks, the interview is perfumed with laughter from both host Joe La Puma and Goldblum, as well as anecdotes that begin to feel like a tangent your grandparents may go on about when reminiscing about the ‘good old days’, but only this time, a little bit more engaging.
The best part of the interview that has stuck with me since its debut in the beginning of summer 2019, was their discussion about shoe laces. At about two minutes into the video, La Puma brings up a store that Goldblum has been known to shop at for a few years, Sportie LA, a sneaker, apparel and accessories store based in Los Angeles.
Goldblum recalls the moment he finally decided to go in to the store, before having a stylist and after living in the area for over thirty years, whereby he was overwhelmed but intrigued by the amount of shoes, but specifically shoelaces they had available in-store.
La Puma then points out that Goldblum had put the laces from his Balenciaga Triple S sneakers into the sacai x Nike LD Waffle collaboration, outwardly displaying his love for creativity and uniqueness in clothing, expressing how he “get[s] freaky about the laces.”
Outside of this interview, I think the moment where Goldblum popped up on not only my own, but everybody’s radar was when he wore THAT Prada shirt for his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live in 2018.
In an interview with Vogue, Goldblum states that he has built up quite an extensive collection of Prada bowling shirts, and that all of them were thanks to his stylist, Andrew Thomas Vottero.
The two met back in 2014 on the set of his British GQ photoshoot, and have since created a plethora of iconic moments, and fashion looks that have furthered the conversation on people wearing whatever they want, and not falling into the trap of dressing like everybody else.
My personal favourite look to date that the two concocted is an all Prada cycling outfit that was one of the outtakes from his Dazed interview.
The large, full length, electric blue jacket hilariously contrasts the tiny shorts, and is a combination that is so rare to see, especially when it comes to menswear.
In an attempt to delve deeper into the stars style, he and Vottero launched an Instagram account at the beginning of February this year as a way to document past looks that the two have worked on together, as well as show off items Goldblum has had in his collection for years on end.
Before he met his stylist, Goldblum was lumped into the fashion that most if not all male actors fell into, the same black and white suit and tie combination that is no doubt a classic, but stale and often uninteresting.
This merge led Goldblum to expand not only his own knowledge and love of fashion, but also showed people that they don’t need to all dress the same, and are able to show personality and creativity through outfits, no matter what age they are.
