After interning at Australian jewellery giants like Sarah & Sebastian and working in the industry for a few years after university, Veronica Dunn went out on her own to create ve.co.

Noticing a gap in the market for those who wanted well-made, sustainable jewellery that was neither too masculine nor feminine, ve.co was born and marketed as designs that can “be worn by all.”

“I found myself making jewellery for myself, friend’s birthdays and weddings, and as demand started to grow I began to seriously consider starting the brand. I really enjoy making things for my mates and family so it just started from there,” Veronica said.

“The industry seemed to be full of delicate, fine jewellery brands and also really chunky, heavy jewellery brands. I wanted to make something that skated in between. I don't believe jewellery should necessarily be labelled for 'men' or for 'women.' When I design and make a piece I don't have a specific gender in mind.”

“My own personal style is not overly feminine or overly masculine either - I wear a lot of unisex clothing. If I like something I will wear it and I want people to feel the same way about the jewellery I make.”

The result is sleek and understated accessories that are designed and made to order in Sydney, with an acute focus on being sustainable.

“I always want to make things that last and believe in quality over quantity,” Veronica explains.

All pieces use precious, recycled metals like refined solid 9ct gold or 925 sterling silver, in order to ensure they stand test of time.

This heirloom ethos which prompts you to keep your pieces forever, is at the heart of ve.co and their classic designs. Featuring modern sliver rings, chains and geometric earrings, Veronica draws inspiration from our Australian flora and in the second collection, Australian architects.

“Jewellery has traditionally been something that is passed on to future generations, worn and loved for decades or even centuries. I love that jewellery marks special occasions and memories and I hope that the jewellery I make holds a special memory for the wearer,” Veronica says.

Having just launched a second collection mid-pandemic, while entering a recession, it’s a time where people are holding money closer to their chest - and she’s noticed consumers are also taking more note of where they vote with their dollars.

“People are buying better quality pieces that last a lot longer. The current state of the world has really forced us to slow down and consider our purchases too.”

“If you know the story behind the piece you purchase it gives you a special connection to the item - you are going to care for it and share this story.”
